Something a little different...

Last week Home Farm Hotel had the pleasure of hosting a Wedding Event and the guests accompanying the wedding party turned out to be something a little different. The Company of Pikemen and Musketeers looked resplendent and were good enough to pose with Nat outside for a few pics of their fantastic uniforms.

The Company of Pikemen & Musketeers is a ceremonial unit of the Honourable Artillery Company, which traces its origins back to 1537. The Pikemen & Musketeers are tasked to provide a bodyguard to the Lord Mayor of London when on official business. Members are dressed as the Honourable Artillery Company (HAC) would have been in the 1640s. Apart from duties in the City of London, the Company is increasingly in demand for state, military, charity and other events, to add colour and pageantry and to gives displays of 17th century drills and music. In recent years the Pikemen & Musketeers have paraded in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy and the United States. Only veteran members of the HAC's Territorial Army / Reserve regiment are eligible for membership. Furthermore they are one of only six royally-warranted bodies in the UK. The Royal Warrant, granted by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 1955 authorises the Company of Pikemen & Musketeers to parade no more than 63 members at any one time, that being the size of a company in the 17th century. They recently paraded at the Platinum Jubilee reception at Guildhall where the Royal Family had a glamorous luncheon.

We didn't quite have 63 members but they were a fantastic addition to the hotel with a history as rich and lengthy as the hotel itself! If you visit their Facebook page you can see all manner of photos of them with World Leaders, Royalty and famous celebrities. And now Nat!
