Things To Do Near Honiton
There are hundreds of things to do and places of interest nearby to Home Farm Hotel! There is something to interest everyone within a very short drive of Home Farm, including Honiton, “the gateway to the West Country”. Honiton houses more than 50 antique shops and emporiums. The hotel is also exceptionally well located for those wishing to break their journey to the more westerly parts of the region, including Cornwall.
Home Farm is set within three acres of grounds and located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We would like you to relax and enjoy the beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. But we'd also encourage you to use it as a base for more active and energetic pursuits. You will find swimming, riding, tennis, fishing and other sports nearby.
There's also exhilarating clifftop walks along the Jurassic Coast, England's only natural UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's stunning rocks, fossils and landforms stretch all the way from Exmouth in East Devon to Old Harry Rocks in Dorset. Not far from the hotel is the delightful unspoilt seaside village of Charmouth. It too is set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and it's beach is world renowned for its fossils. Just around the corner is Lyme Regis, dubbed "The Pearl of Dorset". It too boasts breathtaking scenery. Its historic Cobb and harbour are renowned iconic features, set against moody blue cliffs.
Both locations are just a short drive south from Home Farm Hotel and well worth exploring while you're here.
Close at hand are some exceptional National Trust properties such as Killerton and Knightshayes Court. Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstalls famous River Cottage HQ is a mere 15 minutes drive from the hotel. There are other areas of general interest nearby. Wildlife parks, model villages, working museums and farms are close by. You'll find abbeys, castles and steam railways too. And for nature lovers there's fishing villages, cliff walks and bird sanctuaries. You really are spoilt for choice.
The County town of Taunton, with excellent shops and art galleries, and the Cathedral City of Exeter are both within a 30-minute drive. Both hold a Christmas Market throughout the festive season as well as many Christmas events in the surrounding villages. And don't forget the numerous seaside resorts around us such as Sidmouth, Seaton, Branscombe, Beer and Lyme Regis, all very close by.

Queen's Jubilee Weekend 2022
This year sees the 70th Anniversary of the ascension of Queen Elizabeth II. The Platinum Jubilee will honour Her Majesty with an extended bank holiday from Thursday 2nd June until Sunday 5th June. The whole country will be marking the occasion with special events and Devon will be no different! And our perfect location in Wilmington, near Honiton, means Home Farm Hotel is the ideal place to stay to take advantage of the numerous local events. Lyme Regis Weekend Spectacular
Lyme Regis Town Council are putting together a program of events including music, entertainment, torch light processions and more. There will be free open-air concerts including the BBC Big Band performing on the main stage on the beach on Sunday evening followed by a spectacular fireworks display. Lyme Regis is just a 20 minute drive from the hotel too. More info is available here.
A similar distant away as Lyme Regis, the delightful seaside town of Seaton is also holding numerous events over the weekend. For steam lovers among you there's a Platinum Jubilee Steam Gala at Pecorama where a ticket will secure you unlimited rides all day from 2nd to 4th June. Or for the more athletic, why not join the Jurassic Area Wild Swimmers on the beach for a Tea Party on the Sunday.
Another packed weekend of events is planned kicking off with a BBQ at the Sea Shanty on Branscombe beach including a beer tent, disco and beacon lighting. Then there's a 1950's themed street party/picnic at the village hall on the Saturday. More details here.
Just down the road from is there's sporty feel to the weekend. 'Active Honiton' will feature sporting demonstrations from local clubs including Rugby, Karate and Dance on Thursday. Then Friday sees not one, but three Jubilee Runs, each finisher receiving a souvenir Platinum Jubilee Medal. And after a parade on Sunday morning there will be Hontion's "Big Tea" sit-down street party where visitors are encouraged to bring along a picnic.
If you don't mind travelling a little further afield, the English Riviera is the place to be! The Jubilee Bank Holiday Weekend will feature exciting events like the English Riviera Airshow, where you'll see breath-taking air displays over the stunning natural amphitheatre of South Devon's beautiful bay. Or how about the Music on the Meadows free party on Torre Abbey Meadows in Torquay all day Friday. Along with the Big Lunch on Paignton Green there will also be a Jubilee Flotilla on the Sunday in the bay.
We've not even mentioned Exmouth Festival, Exeter's Jubilee Street Party or Topsham Food Festival. No matter where you are in Devon on this weekend, you're sure to be surrounded by one event or another. We just hope the weather holds out for everyone!
